Tofu Scramble – Vegan and Creamy

This dish is will delight vegans and pleasantly surprise all omnivores. In fact, you will be popular as friends and family will pester you for this recipe.

Who would have thought Tofu can be disguised as scrambled eggs? Tofu is a wonderful substitute. Simply drain any excess liquid, crumble and gently pan-fry as you would regular eggs.

It’s all in the ingredients

Aside from the tofu the stars of this dish have to be the spices and accompaniments. Interestingly, turmeric and nutritional yeast provide this dish with a sensational eggy flavor. Don’t worry, it won’t taste like curry either as only a small amount of turmeric will give this dish is yellow color.

Once you’ve whipped it up, Tofu Scramble is delicious served on golden, sour dough toast. It is equally delicious on Sweet Potato Hash Browns. A perfect gluten-free or grain free alternative to bread.

  • 200 grams Firm Tofu

  • 1 tbsp Dairy Free Margarine or Spread

  • 1 tbsp Olive Olive

  • 1/4 cup Plant Based Milk

  • 1 tsp Arrowroot or Tapioca Flour

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric

  • 1 tsp Nutritional Yeast

  • Salt and Pepper


  • Using your hands, crumble the tofu into a bowl to resemble scrambled eggs.
  • In a cup with the dairy free milk add in the flour and gently whisk with a fork until combined. Add the turmeric, half of the nutritional yeast, salt and pepper and mix again. Set aside
  • In a fry pan, gently warm the butter and olive oil.
  • As the butter and oil mix starts to turn golden, pour in the tofu and flour mixture and quickly mix to ensure the tofu is evenly coated.
  • As the tofu warms the flour mix will thicken – this will only take approx. 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve to your liking on lightly butter toast.
  • Sprinkle with the remaining nutritional yeast and enjoy!


  • You can use medium firmness tofu however be sure to drain off any excess liquid.
